How are breathing and weight loss related?

When we lose fat through weight loss, where does it go?

Fat is converted to carbon dioxide (CO2) and water.

You exhale the carbon dioxide and the water mixes into your circulation until it’s lost as urine or sweat. If you lose 10 pounds of fat, precisely 8.4 pounds comes out through your lungs and the remaining 1.6 pounds turns into water.https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/body/24052-adipose-tissue-body-fat

CO2 is a byproduct of cellular metabolism:

Carbon dioxide is formed intracellularly in the human body as a byproduct of metabolism. It is transported in the bloodstream to the lungs, where it is ultimately removed from the body through exhalation. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK482456/#:~:text=Carbon%20dioxide%20is%20formed%20intracellularly,from%20the%20body%20through%20exhalation.

If fat is excreted via the lungs as CO2 loss, and CO2 is produced through cellular metabolism, it stands to reason that an increase in cellular metabolism would increase the levels of CO2 excreted via the lungs.

Does this mean we can control our weight through breathing?

According to research, how we breathe can affect what we weigh.

Below are some links for more information on this topic, such as what kind of breathing is best to promote weight loss via the lungs, including a technique called Japanese Breathing:
